Dr. L.D. Sanghvi Oration Award

The ISHG also gives once in two years Dr. L.D. Sanghvi Oration Award. This is delivered during the Annual Meeting of the Society.

Young Scientist Awards

Every year the ISHG gives three Young Scientist Awards in the field of Medical Genetics, Cytogenetics and Population Genetics. These awards are respectively named after Dr. Arvind J. Baxi, Dr. K.H. Marimuthu and Dr. H.M. Bhatia. These awards are given on the basis of the research papers that are submitted by the candidates.

Though the Awards are given under these 3 heads, they cover the entire field of Human Genetics. Categorization, to be specified by the candidate, depends upon the aim of the study.

The candidate must not have completed 30 years of age. An age certificate must accompany the paper.

The paper submitted must be the result of independent work by the candidate. An affirmation to this effect by the candidate attested by the Head of the Department and countersigned by the Head of the Institution, must accompany the paper. If the work is a part of Doctoral thesis a certificate from the guide that the candidate is mainly responsible for the findings and interpretation, attested to and countersigned as above, must accompany the paper. Simple review papers, without any attempt at synthesizing and interpretation, are not acceptable. There should be no joint authors.

Six copies of the paper, complete in all respects, should reach the Secretary, ISHG, by the specified date every year and the date is fixed by the secretary depending on when the annual conference is scheduled for that year. Title page, with name of author, should be separate. An extended abstract of around 1000 words should be attached.

Candidates, recommended for consideration for the awards, are required to present their papers at the Annual Meeting of the Society. The presentation is for 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions.

The paper should not be published before the presentation.

The decisions of the Governing Council regarding the Awards is final.
