Dr. S.N. Naik, Ph.D (Bombay) - 1989-90 Coming from background
of veterinary science, Dr Naik distinguished himself as s human
geneticist with many outstanding contributions on the genetics of G6PD
enzyme. In his career of over 30 years at the Cancer Research Institute,
Dr Naik worked on haematology and comparative oncology and is well known
for his discoveries of G6PD Cutch and Kalyan variants, Haploglobin
variant variant in Ahirs, negative association of G6PD deficiency with
cancer in Negroes, total deficiency of G6PD enzyme in spotted deer, the
origin of horn cancer in cattle and for the development of several
mutant strains of mice. |
